Development of the silk sector at Louang Namtha - 2005–2007 – a brief history

This project was officially launched in January 2004. The aim is to contribute to fight poverty, to reduce the socio-economic vulnerability, and improve the living conditions of the populations through the development of the silk sector. Improving the production and weaving techniques allows them to generate income for the families, which was not possible using only the traditional methods and tools traditionnaly used in the area.

After two years of operation, the school farm of Luang Namtha was closed end-March 2007 for reasons beyond our control.
More than a hundred families were producing quality weavings. The SFE seeks the most appropriate means to continue to help the many families who have benefited. More than a hundred families had started to produce quality weavings. Our goal is to help them market their products and pass on their skills in the village networks
